ABOVE Reception
ABOVE Lounge Area
A workplace takes shape in the details: a reception desk that welcomes people in, a banquette where coworkers catch up, or a quiet spot to step away from a busy day. At Uber’s Mission Bay headquarters in San Francisco, Mission Bell’s millwork helps give these everyday spaces their character. Buildings 3 and 4 encompass two 11-story towers totaling 584,000 square feet. Designed by Huntsman Architectural Group, the interiors give employees choices in how they work, gather, and recharge. Open collaboration areas and social spaces are balanced with team rooms, libraries, and quieter places for focused work. Cafés, wellness areas, and other amenities are distributed throughout the buildings, encouraging employees to move around and connect. Mission Bell’s scope included reception desks, wall and ceiling slats, banquettes, counters, and planters that bring greenery into the common areas. That variety drew on our team’s experience in architectural millwork, with each element requiring careful attention to how it would look, fit, and function within the larger space. The craftsmanship carries from the welcoming reception areas to the shared spaces employees use throughout the day. Across a campus of this size, the individual pieces need to work together. Wall and ceiling slats help define the interiors, while banquettes, counters, and planters give gathering areas a comfortable, inviting feel. Our millwork supports the design’s larger purpose while bringing attention to the details people see and use up close. Natural light, views of the surrounding neighborhood, and landscaped roof terraces further connect the workplace to Mission Bay. Interconnecting stairs encourage movement between floors, while a two-story community gathering space offers room for larger events. Together, these spaces create a campus built around the people who use it. For Mission Bell, the reward is seeing our work become part of that daily routine- from the first stop at reception to a shared meal or an informal meeting. This project brought together a broad range of our millwork experience and craftsmanship, with each piece contributing to a welcoming place to spend the workday.
