Think Inc! Monthly Winners

As Employee-Owners of Mission Bell we encourage everyone to work smart so that Mission Bell is successful…and so that the financial success flows to our ESOP Stock!

June 2008 Winner: Eric Przywozny
Eric Przywozny
Nomiated by John Harper

Eric went way beyond the call of duty by writing a “Wood Wop Program” for panel kerfing on his own time.  (Panel kerfing refers to the linear grooves that are usually cut with a skill saw on the back of curved panels to allow a flat piece of wood to be curved.) Eric looked at what we had been doing in Alpha Cam and developed a much more efficient way of programming for kerfs on the CNC Now all we need to do is enter the panel size and radius and the program will adjust the number and spacing of kerfs accordingly.  This has cut the overall kerf programming by 80%.

May 2008 Winner: Janet Pocus
Janet Pocus
Nomiated by Sharon de la Cruz

Several months ago Janet moved to a new spot that cause her to struggle with glare from the window in the afternoon.  After getting quotes from a window treatment ranging from $1600 to over $4000 – Janet came up with a better idea using fabric and wood sticks that will only cost $126 for the fabric and some of her time to put it together.  Way to Think Inc! Janet!!

April 2008 Winner: Anthony Huffman
Ish De La Cruz
Nominated by Chuck, Ish, Phil and Christian

Anthony is on Mission Bell’s Installation team.  A while back Anthony was asked to machine some panels for the Barclay’s Project.  These sequence matched FSC veneer panels that were to be on the ceiling in the main elevator lobby, had to be run on the Production’s Weeke because they required thousands of 5mm holes all over the panels for acoustical reasons.  Anthony was approached by Chuck to tackle this feat because of his Weeke expertise.  Anthony agreed to do it -- the only drawback was that it would take a lot of time on the Production Weeke so he could only work after normal shop hours.  You would think that Anthony would just change his shift around so that he’d only have to work nights in the shop, but not so.  Anthony worked full days Installing and then came in and worked at night I order to get the panels done.  He would work 8 hours in the field and 6 hours in the shop.  He kept this going for two whole weeks back in February.   Unfortunately there was a sprinkler leak in the ceiling at Barclays that damaged some of the panels that had already been installed.  Phil called Anthony to have him come in and rerun some more panels on the Weeke.  Anthony agreed and came in April 14th after working 8 hours in the field, and worked another 5 hours in the shop in order to get these panels done.  This extraordinary effort will help keep Barclay’s on schedule and keep our customer satisfied.  Now that’s got to be Thinking Inc!

March 2008 Winners: Dan Gillmore, Kirk Richardson, Mike Charon, Alex Raanes & Guillermo Barragan
Mar2008
Nominated by Neil Fissel
This group of Mission Bell Team Members came to the rescue at the Hotel Sunnyvale Project late in the day and into the night to finish a phase of the job.  We were looking at $5000 fine if we didn’t finish that day.  The General Manager and the General Contractor are very happy!  Kirk and Mike then showed up at 6am the next morning to help John Mabe with a mock-up at Argenta Condos and then returned to Park Merced.  Alex Raanes showed up to Hotel Sunnyvale with dinner and further support that night.  Way to go, Team.  Dan Gilmore, Kirk Richardson, Mike Charon, Alex Raanes and Guillermo Barragan all went above and beyond to help meet our commitment to our customer.  Thank you!

Dan, Kirk, Mike, Alex and Guillermo will receive a $100 gift card….and Neil will receive a $25 Starbucks card for nominating our Think Inc! Winner for March.

February 2008 Winner: George Carkis
Ish De La Cruz
Nominated by Estevan Salas & Joie Velazquez

George always goes above and beyond.  He not only knows how to run each one of the machines here in Tracy; but whenever something goes wrong with a machine he gets down and dirty and fixes the machine!  When it comes down to the wire, he helps get work out at any cost.  He saves us time and money with his abundance of knowledge.  He comes in early to get the shop ready, and stays late when everyone goes home to get the job out.  He goes on late night deliveries and has even stepped up to learn how to program some of our shop equipment.  His selfless effort and dedication to the company certainly demonstrate his Think Inc! mind-set.

George will receive a $100 gift card….and Estevan Salas and Joie Valazquez will receive a $25 Starbucks card for nominating our Think Inc! Winner for February.

January 2008 Winner: Steve Reggio
Steve Reggio
Nomiated by Larry Fernandez

Steve was nominated for going way above and beyond to complete the Embarcadero Center Counters punch list Saturday 1/12/08.  He stayed late Friday night to receive some custom stainless; then came in early Saturday to get it to the installer.  On Monday, he was on site in San Francisco at 5am to swap a key board tray for one that worked, remove tape etc.  He even brought his own tile saw and power inverter just in case a custom piece of granite needed to be cut.  He walked all three counters with the superintendent to insure all items were satisfactory and complete.  This project was very politically charged.  Steve withstood a fair amount of criticism and pressure to perform...and did a great job of keeping his cool and staying on task to complete the job on time.  Way to Think Inc!

Steve will receive a $100 gift card….and Larry Fernandez will receive a $25 Starbucks card for nominating our Think Inc! Winner for January.

December 2007 Winner: “Ish” - Ishmael De La Cruz
Ish De La Cruz
Nominated by Long Nguyen

Ish was working late on a personal project one night, when George from Tracy came in with a rush delivery for Bank of America in San Francisco that Simba needed to deliver to the jobsite that very night.  Ishmael responded right away by calling John Gamez to clarify what was needed, verifying with Neil about the glass, and confirming with Tony that he understood the whole picture.  Ish was awesome.  He responded promptly to resolve the issues and get our customer what was needed – just like an Employee-Owner does!  Way to Think Inc!

Ish will receive a $100 gift card….and Long Nguyen will receive a $25 Starbucks card for nominating our Think Inc! Winner for December.
